Brake Repair in Mississauga
Brakes are the one system where “probably fine” isn’t an answer. We measure pad and rotor thickness in millimetres, photograph what we see, and put the numbers on the estimate so you can decide with facts instead of adjectives.
Signs it’s time
- Squeal that stops when you brake — that’s the wear indicator doing its job
- Grinding — metal on metal, and now you’re buying rotors too
- Steering wheel or pedal pulses under braking
- Pedal feels soft, spongy, or slowly sinks at a red light
- Car pulls to one side when you brake
- Brake warning light, or the fluid level keeps dropping
Stop driving and call
- Pedal goes to the floor
- Brake fluid visibly leaking at a wheel
- Loud grinding and the car pulls hard under braking
- Burning smell after a normal drive
Any of these means the car is towed, not driven. We’d rather tell you that than book you in for Thursday.

Ranges depend on the vehicle and the part quality you choose. You get the exact figure in writing before we start, and we can’t exceed it by more than 10%.
How we quote it
Three numbers you should always be given
Pad thickness, in mm
New pads are 10–12 mm. Replacement is due around 3 mm. “They’re getting low” is not a measurement.
Rotor thickness vs minimum
The minimum is stamped on the rotor. If yours is above it and runs true, you don’t need new rotors — whatever the upsell says.
Fluid moisture percentage
Above roughly 3% and the boiling point has dropped enough to matter. We test it rather than guessing from the calendar.
Questions
Brakes, honestly
Do I need new rotors every time I change pads?
No. If the rotor is above minimum thickness, runs true and has no deep scoring or heat cracking, pads alone are correct. Some shops replace rotors every time because it’s faster to sell than to measure.
Why does my steering wheel shake when I brake?
Usually thickness variation in the rotor — often from uneven pad material transfer or a sticking caliper slide, not a literally warped disc. We measure runout and thickness variation with a dial gauge, because the fix differs depending on which it is.
How often should brake fluid be changed?
Every two to three years for most manufacturers. It absorbs moisture from the air, which lowers the boiling point and corrodes ABS parts from the inside. That’s a $129 service protecting a $1,500 module.
Are cheap pads a false economy?
Sometimes. Budget pads on a heavy crossover doing highway commuting will fade and dust badly. On a light city car they’re fine. We’ll quote two options and tell you which we’d fit to our own car.
