Engine Repair in Mississauga
A misfire is a symptom. So is a coolant loss, a rough idle and a check engine light. None of them are a part number, and replacing parts until the symptom goes away is how people end up paying twice.
01 / Scope
What we take on
Yes
- Misfires, rough idle, hesitation and stalling
- Oil leaks — valve cover, oil pan, rear main, cam seals
- Coolant leaks, overheating, water pumps, thermostats
- Timing belts at interval, timing chains and guides
- Intake and exhaust manifold gaskets
- Carbon cleaning on direct-injection engines
- Ignition coils, injectors, sensors — after diagnosis
- Head gasket, when the compression and leak-down tests say so
No — we’ll refer you
- Full engine rebuilds and machining
- Engine swaps
- Performance tuning or remapping
- Diesel injection pump rebuilds
We’ll name a specific shop, not wave vaguely at the internet.
02 / Order of work
Test, then replace. Never the reverse.
Scan and read freeze-frame
The conditions when the fault set matter more than the code itself. Don’t clear codes before you bring the car — you erase the evidence.
Live data and, if needed, a scope
Fuel trims, misfire counters, sensor waveforms. This is where a real diagnosis separates from a code read.
Mechanical tests where relevant
Compression, leak-down, cooling system pressure, UV dye. Facts, not theories.
Written estimate with photos
What’s wrong, what it costs, and what happens if you leave it. You approve before anything comes apart.
Flashing check engine light = stop driving. A flashing light means an active misfire dumping raw fuel into the catalytic converter. That’s a $1,500 part being destroyed over the length of a drive home. A steady light can wait a few days; a flashing one can’t.
03 / Price
Common engine jobs
| Job | Price |
|---|---|
| Diagnosis (credited against the repair) | $119 |
| Ignition coil and plug set, 4-cylinder | from $395 |
| Valve cover gasket | from $340 |
| Water pump and thermostat | from $690 |
| Timing belt kit with water pump | from $1,150 |
| Timing chain and guides | quoted |
| Intake carbon cleaning (walnut blast) | from $580 |
| Cooling system pressure test and dye | $95 |
| Compression and leak-down test | $180 |
On an older vehicle we’ll also tell you our honest view of whether the repair is worth it. Talking someone out of a $1,600 job on a car with a rusted subframe is not good salesmanship, but it’s the right call.
Questions
Engine work, asked and answered
Is a check engine light always serious?
Steady means a stored fault worth looking at soon. Flashing means an active misfire destroying your catalytic converter right now — pull over and call.
Is it worth fixing an engine on an old car?
We give you the repair cost and our view of what the car is worth after. If the body is rotten or the transmission is next, we’ll say so before you spend the money.
Do you do timing belts and chains?
Both. Belts at the manufacturer interval, with the water pump and tensioners — doing the belt alone to save $150 is a false economy. Chains when correlation codes or noise show the guides are worn.
My car burns oil. Is that normal?
Some engines genuinely consume oil by design — up to about a litre per 5,000 km on certain makes. Beyond that it’s valve seals, rings or a leak, and the tests tell us which.
