Electrical Repair & Batteries in Mississauga

Electrical faults are where parts get thrown at problems. A car that won’t start has at least six possible causes, and only one of them is the battery — so we test the circuit before anyone reaches for a part.

Turn the key — what happens?
What you hearUsual suspects
Nothing at all, no dash lightsBattery flat, terminal corroded, or a main ground
Single loud clickStarter solenoid, or a battery too weak to crank
Rapid clickingLow battery voltage — often the battery, sometimes the alternator
Cranks but won’t fireFuel, spark or the crank sensor — not an electrical supply problem

Dash lights flicker, then nothingCorroded ground strap or a loose main cable

A modern battery isn’t a drop-in part. Most cars built after roughly 2012 need the new battery registered to the charging module. Skip that step and the alternator keeps charging as if the old, tired battery is still fitted — which shortens the new one’s life considerably. We register it. Some places don’t, and that’s part of why the price differs.

Questions

Electrical, asked and answered

Why does my battery die every winter?

Cold cuts a battery’s output while thick oil makes the engine harder to turn, so a battery that was marginal in October fails in January. It can also be a parasitic drain or an alternator that isn’t fully charging — which is why we test instead of selling you a battery on sight.

How long should a battery last here?

Four to six years typically. Short trips shorten it a lot, because the alternator never gets time to fully recharge between starts.

Do you install remote starters?

No. Badly installed aftermarket starters cause parasitic drains and immobiliser faults that are expensive to trace afterwards — and we’d be the ones tracing them. Dash cams, yes, hard-wired properly on a fused tap.

My car is fine after a boost. Is the battery bad?

Maybe, or maybe it’s the alternator not replacing what the starter used. A boost only proves the car runs with enough voltage — it says nothing about which component failed.
