Transmission Service in Mississauga

The most expensive assembly in most cars, and the one people are told never needs anything. “Lifetime fluid” means the length of the warranty, not the length of the car’s life — and heat is what wears a gearbox out, not kilometres.

01 / Symptoms

What tells you it needs attention

  • Shifts feel harsh, delayed or hunt between gears
  • Shudder at light throttle around 60–80 km/h — often the torque converter clutch
  • Slipping: engine revs climb but speed doesn’t
  • Reddish or dark fluid on the driveway
  • Burnt smell from the dipstick tube
  • Transmission warning light or limp mode
  • Clunk on engagement into Drive or Reverse — often a mount, not the gearbox
  • Whine that changes with road speed rather than engine speed

Limp mode is a message, not a suggestion. If the car has dropped into a single gear and the light is on, driving it further to “see if it clears” is how a solenoid fault becomes a rebuild. Get it scanned first.

02 / Price

What we do and what it costs

Plus 13% HST В· fluid volume varies by vehicle
JobPrice
Transmission scan and fluid inspection$119
Automatic fluid and filter service (drain and fill)from $229
Automatic fluid exchange, full volumefrom $389
Manual gearbox oil changefrom $149
Transmission mount, per mountfrom $210
Solenoid or valve body replacementquoted
Clutch replacement, manualquoted
Differential or transfer case fluidfrom $139

We use the fluid specification the manufacturer requires — not a universal ATF with an adapter chart on the back of the bottle. On modern transmissions the wrong fluid causes exactly the shudder people then pay to diagnose.

03 / Honesty

Where we stop

We service, diagnose, replace mounts and repair valve bodies and solenoids. We do not rebuild transmissions. That is specialised bench work with specialised tooling, and a shop that does it every day will do it better than a shop that does it twice a year.

If yours needs a rebuild we’ll tell you what we found, give you the name of a specialist we actually use, and hand over the diagnostic data so you don’t pay twice to find the same fault.

Questions

The two myths

My manual says lifetime fluid. Is that true?

“Lifetime” there means the warranty period. Fluid degrades with heat, and a transmission at 160,000 km that has never been serviced is running on fluid that stopped protecting it a long time ago.

Doesn’t a fluid change kill a high-mileage transmission?

That reputation comes from transmissions that were already failing. Fresh fluid has more detergent and can release deposits that were masking worn clutch material. We inspect the old fluid and the pan first, and if servicing yours is a bad idea we’ll say so.

Do you rebuild transmissions?

No — and we’d rather say that plainly than take the job and outsource it quietly with a markup.

How often should it be serviced?

Every 60,000–100,000 km depending on the vehicle, and at the shorter end if you tow, sit in Highway 401 traffic daily, or drive a CVT.
